Born in London, David won art prizes at school and went on to study illustration at art college in England. After obtaining his degee he travelled around Europe and spent some years on the Greek island of Corfu earning a living painting local scenes and as a portrait sketch artist in the island’s top hotels.

On returning to England David taught himself signwriting, started his own business and within a few years became known for his pictorial work. This eventually developed into a reputation for painting murals. He did quite a bit of fairground painting eg Ghost Trains and amusement rides as well as murals in houses and gardens during this time.

David says he has always kept sketchbooks and having moved to Sydney in 2000 began recording his local area, Balmain, in pen and ink drawings. This led to his first Balmain Calendar of 2005 and his drawings becoming part of Balmain Library’s Local History Collection. For 2008 he produced a watercolour calendar of Mosman which was very well received and for 2009 he have produced watercolour calendars of Balmain, Mosman (all new paintings) Annandale & Glebe. He also produces amusing, quirky greetings cards of Balmain and Annandale.

Recently David illustrated two children’s books about the environment, one of which, Weather or Not: It’s a Climate for Change, was shortlisted for the 2008 Wilderness Society’s Environment Award for Children’s Literature.

David teaches drawing at Sydney Community College and oil painting at Macquarie Community College.
