Artist in Residence
programme
2010 - Col Henry - Sculpting
Col Henry has been accredited with many ground breaking techniques and mediums including, Stainless steel, bronze, resins and more. Sculpture has been his life long passion, creating unique and interesting works of art, teaching in his studio, and designing and installing many sculptures in private and public areas. His philosophy requires the artist to imagine the concept, find ways to design and conceive, develop and improve and finally to actually make and install the works. One of his latest styles, the "Gossamer Series", involves physically sketching in space, which is innovative and explores figurative sculpture, where the spacial relationships take on a greater importance than the positive surfaces of the works. He is recognised as an innovator, not an imitator, and his unique work has developed over 40 years of dedication to his art.

LIFESAVER! LIFESAVER! from the Swell Scultpure Exhibition in September 2008
The Australian Society of Marine Artists and SydneyHeritage Fleet HF are proud to announce their new Sculptor-In-Residence has take up residency onboard the historic ferry Kanangra. Col Henry is a well known sculptor on the Central Coast, he has made some wonderful pieces for various Councils and has just recently had his work shown on the ABC. Col and three other artists were invited by the Department of Environment Climate Change (DECC) and the traditional owners of Dandry Gorge to create a series of sculptures for the public. The Dandry Gorge, Baradine NSW project was a joint project between the Aboriginal people of Dandry Gorge and DECC.
Col found the project very worthwhile and challenging as he had to transport and assemble all of his work in the bush. Col’s work stood 3 meters high and the head of each piece was made up of 20 individual pieces, which had to be assembled and polished in the bush. The “Sculptures in the Scrub” documentary was shown on the ABC on 18 October 2009.
