BIOGRAPHY
Bill Mearns is a well-known marine artists throughout Australia.  He has a strong following in Hobart, Tasmania and also in his home country of Scotland where he has sketched marine subjects form boyhood, particularly those of the East of Scotland where his seafaring ancestors plied their trade from many generations.

Bill has an extensive knowledge of working boats and has studied then closely at sea, where he takes every opportunity to sail and observe vessels in action.  He also enjoys the challenge of painting modern racing yachts and large shipping companies' vessels. The Port of Hobart and its River Derwent provides him with excellent opportunities to see them at first hand.  He also makes models of small traditional boats which serve as drawing models.

He has had solo exhibitions since 1981 in Australia and his work has  been collected in Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, the USA, Italy, New Zealand, Japan and the Netherlands.
